GCU Comes Up Short Against Tough Cal Poly

Grand Canyon University turned around a 0-9 loss to Cal Poly from last year to a 3-6 loss this year. We had our chances to win today, but came up a little short. We lost a tough three-setter at No. 1 singles and a tiebreaker in the second set at No. 5 singles that could have put us over the top if those were wins.

Although we are looking for more team highlights to boast about, there were more individual highlights to add to this year's list. Giraldi and Herbert won a tough 9-7 match at No. 1 doubles. Sebastian Guevara won his first third-set battle of the season at the No. 5 position. Szymon Gas won after his opponent retired due to an injury while Gas was leading 7-5, 4-1.

The women had an even tougher time against a very strong Broncos team. We got off to a great start when Stephanie Haldeman and Cecilia Vergnet were able to win 9-7 at the No. 1 doubles spot while Mandy Prudhomme and Ali Brackey lost a close 8-6 match in the No. 3 position. Cal Poly was able to take all of the momentum away in singles and finished off the team score at 8-1. The 'Lopes played well today, but the Broncos played extra solid on their home courts.

The Lady 'Lopes will look to finish their LA trip with a win against Cal State LA on Saturday.
