Grand Canyon University scored four goals in the second period and four more in the third to defeat Southwestern (Texas) University, 12-5, yesterday in Whittier, Calif.

The 'Lopes improved to 1-1 on the season.

Six players scored goals for GCU: senior attack Scott Franks (Lakewood, OH/St. Ignatius), 3; freshman attack Konner Klein (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain), 2; junior attack Billy Lloyd (Tucson, AZ/Sabino), 2; freshman attack John Casmedes (Plano, TX/Plano West Senior), 2; sophomore midfielder Trey Whistle (Springdale, AR/Har-Ber), 2; and sophomore attack Jacob Hippensteel (Chandler, AZ/Chandler), 1.

Hippensteel had two assists, and Franks, Klein and freshman Kahaiakaponia Sibley (Denver, CO/Northglenn) had one each.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Hunter (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) made five saves in 55:17 of action and was credited with the decision. He was replaced with 4:43 left by sophomore Dale Schlegel (Downey, CA/Downey).
