Senior midfielder/forward Nichole Elias (pictured, Tucson, AZ/Saguaro) had five shots, four of them on goal, and scored both goals as the Grand Canyon University (GCU) women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw with Academy of Art University (AAU) Saturday in San Francisco.
Senior midfielder/forward Kaylen Jackson (Tucson, AZ/Amphitheater) also had a great game for the Antelopes (3-3-1, 0-1-1 Pacific West Conference) with eight shots, including five on goal, and an assist.
Midfielder Morgan LeFever connected on a penalty kick at 17:45 and forward/defender/midfielder Jasmine Sharpe gave the Urban Kinghts a two-goal lead at 27:24 off an assist by midfielder Tanner McCandlish. Elias scored her first goal of the game and second of the season at 40:34 to close the gap. Her second goal of the game came at 84:17 off Jackson's assist, her first of the season.
Both team's offenses were quiet in overtime. GCU had just one shot on the first overtime and two in the second, while the Urban Knights had three in the second overtime.
For the game, the 'Lopes outshot AAU (0-7-2, 0-2-2), 19-9, and had two more corner kicks. Urban Knights goalkeeper Solveig Barnes had nine saves.
