LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Against a program with a wealth of depth and tradition, second-year Grand Canyon lost at UC San Diego Sunday.
Still, freshman Caiti Hoffman set a new school mark in the 200 breaststroke (2:43.30) to place third in her event.
GCU's women lost 171-15 and the men were defeated 174-24.
Hoffman added a third in the 200 IM (2:17.24). Cherie Przybyl had a third place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:04.62) and a fourth in the 100 freestyle (57.45). Brooke Bellah was fifth in the 50 free (26.63).
Ben Hewitt (pictured) had the highest finish of the day. He was second in the 200 backstroke (2:04.16).
Tyler Bhirdo (200 free - 1:51.01), Tony Borr (1000 free - 11:01.36), Charles Woodruff (100 free - 48.05) all placed third along with the 400 medley relay team (3:48.84) of Mike Smyers, Woodruff, Hewitt and Bhirdo and the 200 freestyle relay team (1:31.85) of Bhirdo, Hewitt, Marque Hurd and Woodruff.
Borr added a pair of fourths in the 500 freestyle (5:13.11) and the 200 fly (2:27.97).
Placing fifth were Woodruff (50 free - 22.31), Hewitt (200 IM - 2:05.42) and Bhirdo (500 free - 5:23.88).
