Joe Rich completed his third season as the Grand Canyon beach volleyball assistant coach in 2019-20, having joined the staff for the 2017-18 season. In his three seasons with the Lopes, Rich has compiled a 43-29 record and helped GCU maintain a spot in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Coaches Poll.
Rich played volleyball for the All-Marine team from 1991-1995 and played professional volleyball from 1996-2000.
In Rich’s five years of professional beach volleyball starting in 1996, Rich played on three notable tours including the MPVA, EVP Tour and most notably the AVP Tour.
Along with his professional career starting in 1996, so did his coaching career, starting at Network Volleyball Club.
Since 2005, Rich has coached indoor volleyball players that are transitioning to the sand courts, mentoring them in their transition and coaching them on the slight differences between the ways athletes approach each game.
From 2010 to 2014, Rich began coaching at DEVA and Epic United Volleyball Club, and from 2014 to 2017, Rich owned Diggz of NWI, which operated seven indoor volleyball courts and two sand volleyball courts. Rich also acted as the club director and as an instructor to players of the club.
Rich, a native of Chicago, Illinois, has over 25 years of coaching experience, both on the beach and on the hardwood.
