MPSF Championship seeding to be voted by coaches

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 13 Grand Canyon split its doubleheader at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts on Saturday, earning a 3-1 win over Houston Christian before falling 3-0 to No. 2 TCU to end the regular season.

The Lopes opened the day strongly, defeating Houston Christian behind a trio of straight-set victories. GCU sophomore Karynn Garrow and senior Sophia Hladyniuk cruised at the No. 4 flight with a 21-12, 21-10 performance, while Lopes sister Becca and Jessica Drake followed with a 23-21, 21-12 win on Court 3. GCU senior Madi Bogle and sophomore Regan Holmer secured the clinching point at Court 5, winning 21-12, 21-18. The top pairing of sophomore Adrianna Ferro and freshman Ines Piret was leading when play was called with the team outcome decided.

The matches were played to clinch because of a weather delay prior to the first match.

Later in the day, GCU battled host and second-ranked Horned Frogs in a 3-0 loss. The Lopes fell in straight sets on Courts 2, 3, and 4 as TCU's depth showed. GCU junior Katie Keefe and sophomore Rhea Kohl dropped a competitive second set on Court 2 (21-13, 21-19), while the Drakes fell to the pairing of Allanis Navas and Sofia Izuzquiza (21-17, 21-13). Garrow and Hladyniuk were also defeated in two sets. Two matches went unfinished, including the top-flight contest featuring Ferro and Piret and the No. 5 match with Bogle and freshman Mae Manthe, though GCU was leading the latter.

GCU will look ahead to the first-ever MPSF Championships in Huntington Beach, California, on Wednesday through Friday.
