At Grand Canyon One of only four Lopes to play and start all 50 games in 2015, Newbury earned 49 hits for a .322 batting average. She showed incredible patience at the plate, collecting just nine strikeouts in 152 at-bats while posting 15 walks. Through three seasons, she now has 42 walks and just 20 strikeouts in 450 at-bats.
Newbury added five doubles and one home run while driving in 26 runs and scoring 33. She had 15 multi-hit games, including a pair of four-hit performances early in the year. Against Santa Clara on Feb. 8, she went 4 for 4 with three runs scored, and came back six days later to go 4 for 5 with a run against Texas Tech. She ended 2015 on a tear, hitting .350 with eight runs, six RBI, a double and a home run in the final eight games of the season.
In 2014, Newbury was a first-team All-WAC selection after hitting at impressive .405 clip during conference play. She was also named College Sports Madness Second Team All-WAC as she finished second on team in batting average, compiling a .356 average in 118 at-bats. Newbury smacked eight doubles and connected on a triple and home run while being error-free at third base after making the switch mid-season. She struck out only five times but collected 13 multi-hit games.
A year earlier as a rookie, she was named third team All-Pacific West Conference after making only one error all season in 234 chances for .996 fielding percentage. She played error-free in her first 30 collegiate games and the final 28 of the 2013 season. After a slow start, she hit .378 (48-for-127) in the final 41 games and tied for fourth on the team with 18 multi-hit games. She fanned only six times, the least of any regular while starting all 59 games at second base. At Horizon High School Newbury was a 2012 second-team all-state selection and team MVP after setting the team record for career doubles and tying the record for career triples. The previous season, she was a second-team all-region pick and named the team’s All-Around Player of the Year. One year earlier, Newbury earned second-team all-region honors and was the team’s Scholar Athlete of the Year. During her freshman campaign, Newbury was an honorable-mention all-region honoree and team MVP.
