Grand Canyon right-hander
Abi Jones earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week after earning two wins on the road in GCU's sweep of Utah State.

Jones, has become the go-to relief pitcher for Grand Canyon's impressive pitching staff. Both of her wins in games one and two of the Utah State series came in relief.
The freshman appeared in three of the four games on the week, including the loss at Arizona at the beginning of the week. Jones has appeared in 22 games this season with just one start.
In game one of the Utah State series, Jones pitched 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief, just allowing one hit and striking out five. Game two she took her game to another level, retiring all eight batters she faced in relief.
Jones is 5-1 on the season with a 1.85 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. She has struck out 29 batters in her 41 innings of work, allowing just a .220 opponent's batting average. The Lopes' pitching staff only allowed four runs in the Utah State series improving staff's overall ERA to 1.82, which ranks sixth-best in the entire nation.
Jones helped move GCU to 36-2 on the season, giving the Lopes the most wins in the nation and best winning percentage in the country. The team also earned a program-best national RPI ranking of 28 today. The Lopes are 9-0 in the Mountain West, as they play host to second-place Nevada (6-3) this weekend at GCU Softball Stadium.
