Brady Howe joined Grand Canyon Athletics as Director of Sports Medicine in August 2024 after serving six years as the Phoenix Suns Vice President of Health and Performance.
Howe's extensive experience in athletics includes 10 years in the NBA and G League, as well as previous work in collegiate athletics and independent baseball.
Howe most recently served as the VP of Health and Performance for the Phoenix Suns, where he spent six years in that role after joining the NBA franchise in 2018 as head strength and conditioning coach and assistant athletic trainer. Howe oversaw the integration of medical and performance departments and coordinated care provided for the Suns players.
"I am honored to announce that I will be joining Grand Canyon University as the Director of Sports Medicine," Howe said. "I would like to particularly thank (GCU Vice President of Athletics) Jamie Boggs, Nick Ojea and (assistant athletic director for sports performance) Zach Farrel for entrusting me with this incredible opportunity. I also want to extend my gratitude to the entire Lopes Nation for welcoming my family and me into this amazing community."
Prior to the Suns, Howe was an assistant athletic trainer and assistant strength coach for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks during the 2017-18 season.
From 2014-17, Howe was the Director of Health and Performance for the Salt Lake Stars, the Utah Jazz's G League affiliate, where he spent time in Boise, Idaho, and Salt Lake City. He was an assistant athletic trainer and assistant strength coach for the Utah Jazz during NBA Summer League.
"The future for GCU sports medicine is in great hands," Farrel said. "The wisdom and experience that Brady is bringing in with him is first class. Brady's leadership approach will not only impact the athletic trainers but also the student-athletes they interact with. I look forward to working alongside Brady and welcome him and his family into Lope Nation."
Howe's collegiate experience includes four years (2011-14) as an athletic trainer and strength coach at his alma mater, Weber State, where he worked with the football and men's basketball teams. Howe also worked for the Ogden Raptors baseball team and the Utah Flash, a former NBA Development League team from 2009-11.
"Throughout this hiring process, I became instantly excited to collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals who are committed to elevating the well-being and success of GCU's student-athletes," Howe said. "GCU's program is on a great path to becoming one of the strongest sports medicine and athletic performance departments in college sports, setting the standard of excellence and care for our student-athletes."
Howe graduated from Weber State in 2008 with a clinical athletic training degree. He earned a master's degree in sport performance and conditioning from Southern Utah in 2013 and another master's degree in theoretical psychology from National this year.
