Amicone is in his second year as a member of the GCU baseball staff for the 2020 season. In his role as director of baseball operations, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the program including travel, scheduling, budgeting, camps and more.
No stranger to the WAC, Amicone came to GCU after serving on the coaching staff at Utah Valley for four seasons. He served as the team's volunteer assistant in 2015 before being promoted to assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. On top of his recruiting duties, Amicone worked closely with the Wolverines infielders.
Amicone also played for three seasons at Utah Valley from 2009-11. He helped lead the Wolverines to two Great West Conference regular season and tournament championships. As a sophomore in 2010, Amicone helped lead the Utah Valley offense to the NCAA's team batting title, hitting .352 on the season with eight doubles.
On the recruiting trail, Amicone led Utah Valley's efforts which included landing two of D1Baseball's WAC 2018 Impact Freshmen in Drew Sims and Drew Hill. He also recruited a pair of 2018 All-WAC honorees in Trevor Peterson and David Modler. Many of Utah Valley's key players including Ryan Eastburn (second leading hitter), Jake Carr (tied for team lead in wins), Jackson Overlund (home run and extra-base leader) and Paxton Schultz (weekend starting pitcher) were recruited by Amicone.
After being promoted to a full-time assistant for the 2016 season, Amicone led a Utah Valley defense that turned 61 double plays on the season -- a mark that ranked eighth nationally. The Wolverines tied a program record with a .971 fielding percentage and led the WAC with a .977 fielding percentage during conference play.
Amicone's playing career concluded in 2011, and he completed his undergraduate degree as a student assistant coach at Utah for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He helped Utah's transition into the Pac-12 Conference.
In the summer of 2012, Amicone gained professional coaching experience by serving as a coaching intern with the Los Angeles Angels organization. He was assigned to Salt Lake, the Angels Triple-A affiliate, where he was the team's first base coach among other responsibilities.
Amicone spent the 2014 season with the Oregon Ducks baseball program, assisting with the day-to-day operations of the program. The Ducks vaulted as high as No. 2 in the national rankings.
Amicone graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Utah in 2013. He comes from a family very tied to the sport. His father, Marc, is the president and general manager of the Salt Lake Bees. His mother, Mary Kay, is the head softball coach at Weber State. His brother, Trevor, is an assistant baseball coach at Dixie State.
