Adams takes MW Offensive Player of the Week

Junior transfer leads charge for GCU's attack through 2 weeks
Grand Canyon junior forward Amanda Adams won the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week award for Week 2 of her first Lopes season.
Adams has been a lightning-bolt addition to the GCU's offensive front line, leading the team in every offensive category through the first two weeks. With senior Ellie Johannes, the two Lopes forwards are causing chaos for opposing back lines and earning multiple scoring chances.
The native of Keller, Texas, scored GCU's game-winning goal in the 10th minute Thursday against Buffalo. After sophomore Piper Carlson's throw-in into the box and a Buffalo defender's deflection, Adams drove the ball into the back of the net. She got the Lopes on the board again six minutes later, when her header was saved by the Bulls and Johannes cleaned it up for the second goal of the match, giving Adams her second assist of the season.
Adams assisted her first goal with GCU in the previous match when the Lopes beat Arizona. She was inches from scoring in the final match of Week 2 vs. Texas with a nifty spin move around a Longhorn defender. That gave Adams an open lane and a tight window between the keeper and the near post, but her shot richocheted off the inside of the near post and out of danger.
"Amanda is off to a great start this season," Lopes head coach Chris Cissell said. "She will be the first to tell you that her success is due to her teammates and the hard work they are all putting in to accomplish the team's goals. We are lucky to have her here at GCU for the next couple of seasons."
Grand Canyon is right back to work this week with two more matches. The final match of the season-opening four-match homestand will be Thursday night against CSU Northridge before the Lopes hit the road for the first time in the regular season to play at UC Irvine on Sunday.
