3 THINGS TO KNOW
- LOPES AND 'CATS: GCU and Arizona are meeting for the second of three games this season. The Lopes claimed the first meeting 7-5 in Tucson on March 3. The teams will conclude the season series on April 28 at GCU Ballpark. This will mark the 105th meeting in the all-time series. GCU has won seven of the last nine matchups.
- LOPEZ FLASHING POWER: Freshman third baseman Jose Lopez III is taking advantage of his opportunity in the GCU infield. In four games last week against Arizona State and Washington State, Lopez hit .333 with a 1.212 OPS, leading GCU in batting average, slugging percentage (.800) and total bases (12). He produced four extra-base hits (two doubles, one triple and his first career home run).
- TURN IT: GCU has turned 23 double plays on the season, a mark that ranks 13th nationally and leads the Mountain West.
SCOUTING ARIZONA
Arizona enters Tuesday's matchup at 8-15 (2-4 Big 12). The Wildcats opened the season with a five-game losing streak, then showed flashes at a neutral-site event with wins over Vanderbilt (5-1) and UC Irvine (7-1). Arizona's most complete stretch came in a three-game sweep of Fresno State (6-0, 9-5, 14-4), but it has since lost conference series at Utah (1-2) and vs. Texas Tech (1-2).
The Wildcats rank 45th nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (10.1) and 61st in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.43), showing the ability to miss bats while posting a 5.27 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. Offensively, Arizona is hitting .271 with a .361 on-base percentage (226th) and 5.7 runs per game.
