SEDONA, Ariz. – Two weeks removed from tying a program best single low round of 65 at the GCU Invitational, freshman
Alexis Vakasiuola nearly added her name to that list twice by carding a 6 under 66 with six birdies to no bogeys in round one of the Red Rocks Invitational at Oakcreek Country Club.
The 6 under total is good for second place after 18 holes in Sedona, one shot behind Northern Arizona's Amy Hodgkins.
GCU is 1 over as a team and tied for third place among 11 schools. The Lopes are tied with Gonzaga and hold 10 shot leads over fifth place Wichita State. Host school Northern Arizona is in first at 11 under followed by Weber State at 2 under.
Each Lope started the day on the par 4, 10th hole, with Vakasiuola notching three birdies on both her front and back nine's. She ended her day going birdie-par-birdie-birdie and is tied for second among the field in that category.
