Lopes swept the Gaels this weekend in first home match in over a month
PHOENIX, Ariz –The GCU women's tennis team defeated Saint Mary's in a clean 4-0 sweep. The 48th ranked Lopes get a huge win after being tied for their highest ranking ever.
Starting out in doubles the Lopes absolutely dominated the Gaels only losing two total games. Senior Dani Deaifi and sophomore Bella Crossman got the job finished first on Court 1 winning 6-1.
Immediately after, the freshman pair of Hams Metwally and Amalia Suciu did the same. They defeated Elif Tuana Gunal and Madison Weekly of the Gaels 6-1, clinching the doubles point for the Lopes.
Singles play started with an immediate point to the Lopes after Saint Mary's forfeited the match on Court 6.
With the 2-0 lead in the match, Deaifi went to work on Court 4 defeating Sydney Wilson 6-1, 6-3.
Following that win junior Gala Arangio got the win 6-1, 6-3 on Court 3. With that win it brings her to a two game win streak.
With that point the Lopes secured the match to sweep Saint Mary's 4-0, the rest of the matches were left unfinished.
Grand Canyon moves to 7-5 on the season with the win. They will have a couple week break before they are back at GCU Tennis Facility to take on the San José State Spartans.
