5-5 GCU looks to rebound in 1st Mountain West meeting with Aggies

Grand Canyon travels north to Utah State to face the Aggies at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Utah State is hosting Field Trip Day and live coverage can be found on the Mountain West Network.

AT A GLANCE

The Lopes look to turn the tide Wednesday at Utah State. GCU has won three of its last five overall and is sixth out of 12 teams in the Mountain West standings.
GCU freshman Ines Zounia has sparked the offense since becoming a starter at the beginning of conference play, averaging 8.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists. Zounia is also shooting a team-best 43% from 3-point range in that span.
Junior guard Julianna LaMendola recorded her ninth double-figure scoring game (sixth in Mountain West play) last Saturday against Boise State. The Texas native leads the squad with 6.2 rebounds per game and has grabbed at least four boards in every game since the season opener.
GCU is coming off a season-best seven blocked shots against the Broncos. The Lopes have five games of at least five blocks and are averaging 5.3 blocks over the past four games.
Senior forward Anisa Jeffries is seventh in the conference in steals per game, averaging 1.8. Jeffries has recorded a steal in seven of her last eight games and has nine multi-steal games this season.
The squad extended its double-digit offensive rebounding streak to four games, moving the season total to 16 games with double-digit offensive boards. GCU has outrebounded its opposition 221-185 on the offensive glass this season.
Graduate guard Ale'jah Douglas is coming off her ninth double-digit scoring game, pouring in 16 points with three 3-pointers off the bench against Boise State. The Lopes average 24.8 bench points per game, 46th in the nation and second best in the Mountain West.

THIS GAME

A new week sees GCU head to Logan, Utah, to face Utah State for its third road game in the last four contests.
The Lopes face the Aggies for the first time this season and second time in the last two years. Wednesday's matchup is the first as Mountain West schools.
GCU is 3-2 in Mountain West road games this season.

SCOUTING UTAH STATE

Utah State enters Wednesday with a 6-13 record and 2-8 Mountain West showing at the halfway mark of the conference season.
The Aggies are 5-4 at home.
USU has held teams to a 29% mark from beyond the arc, fourth lowest in the Mountain West. On the other side, it attempts 22 3-pointers per contest, fourth most in the league.
Aaliyah Gayles leads the team with 12.8 points per outing, shooting 31% from 3 and 77% from the free throw line.
Sophie Sene has pulled down 118 rebounds, averaging 6.6 per game. She has 43 offensive boards and has a team-best 46% field goal clip.
The Aggies are searching for their first win in 2026 and are 0-5 against common MW opponents this season.
Wednesday's game is a part of Field Trip Day and the earliest tipoff time for the Lopes this season.
