Yorke chasing program history; Lopes aim for 5th win in 6 tries vs. Wildcats

Grand Canyon concludes its 27-game home schedule by hosting No. 22 Arizona on Tuesday night at Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Michael Potter (play-by-play) and Elijah Buries (analysis).

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

RUBBER MATCH: Tuesday night's matchup will decide the winner of the de facto three-game season series of midweek matchups between the Lopes and Wildcats. GCU opened the season series with an April 1 home victory 11-5. The Wildcats held serve on the home turf with a 14-4 win on April 15. GCU is aiming for its fifth win in the last six tries against Arizona.
YORKE WATCH: Junior first baseman Zach Yorke is nearing several milestones. Yorke has already tied GCU's Division I career record for home runs with 29, needing one more to break the record. He is chasing down Jacob Wilson's D-I career RBIs record (155), needing four more to break that record. Additionally, Yorke sits six hits shy of 200 for his Lopes career.
CLEAN DEFENSE: After a shaky defensive start to the 2025 season, the Lopes have dramatically cleaned things up. GCU has committed only one error in its last nine games and has not committed multiple errors in its last 13 games. The Lopes have improved their fielding percentage to .970.

SCOUTING ARIZONA

Arizona enters with a No. 22 national ranking and is tied for third in the Big 12 standings with two conference series remaining against under .500 foes in Utah and Houston. After losing a series at Texas Tech, Arizona bounced back to win a home series against TCU last weekend.

The Wildcats lead Division I with 29 triples. Offensively, shortstop Mason White (.316, 9 home runs, 47 RBIs) and center fielder Aaron Walton (.341, 10 home runs, 36 RBIs) anchor a lineup that's averaging 6.5 runs per game. The Wildcats will send right-hander Bryce McKnight (1-0, 3.60 ERA) to the mound, a Phoenix native who will be appearing for just the fourth time this season. McKnight allowed six earned runs in 1/3 innings of work against the Lopes in Tucson last season.
