The regular season concludes in Stephenville, Texas, as Grand Canyon visits Tarleton State for a three-game set beginning on Thursday. The WAC race is wide open with four teams in the mix for regular-season titles and plenty to be determined in the seedings picture for next week's WAC Tournament.

The three-game series will be streamed on ESPN+.

3 THINGS TO KNOW

TITLE WATCH: The WAC standings are heavily congested, as four teams enter the weekend still in the mix for the regular-season title. Sacramento State leads the standings by one game over second-placed GCU and Abilene Christian. California Baptist could also tie for a co-championship. Sacramento State hosts Utah Tech, while Abilene Christian and California Baptist face off in Riverside.

SEEDINGS WATCH: GCU still controls its own destiny for a top-two seed and double bye in the WAC Tournament. Without help from surrounding teams, the Lopes could sweep Tarleton State and hold a top-two seed. GCU is still in the race for the top seed, needing to finish the weekend two games better than Sacramento State to clinch the No. 1 seed.

SCALDEFERRI SUCCESS: Sophomore infielder Billy Scaldeferri is riding a 10-game hitting streak into this weekend's series. Seeing time at second base and third base, Scaldeferri homered at Stanford and Arizona State in the past week. In 24 games and 16 starts, Scaldeferri is hitting .370.

SCOUTING TARLETON STATE

Tarleton State — the reigning WAC Tournament Champions — has not yet clinched a spot in this year's conference tournament but is one win or one Seattle U loss away from doing so. The Texans won last year's tournament as the No. 5 seed which sent the regular-season champion Lopes to the NCAA tournament due to Tarleton State's postseason ineligibility.

Holding a 21-31 record, the majority of the Texans' struggles in 2025 have come on the road with a 5-17 record, while protecting the home diamond at around a .500 level (16-14). Tarleton State has only three WAC series wins, however, two are against a pair of the WAC's best clubs in Sacramento State and Utah Valley.

Tarleton State excels offensively, ranking in the nation's top 50 in batting average, triples, hits, sacrifice flies and stolen bases. Defensively, the team is also solid at turning double plays. However, their pitching staff has struggled, ranking in the bottom third nationally in ERA, strikeouts per nine and hits allowed, contributing to the team's 21-31 record.

WHAT'S NEXT?

GCU will play in the WAC Tournament at Mesa's Hohokam Stadium. The tournament begins on Tuesday, but the Lopes will open the tournament on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday depending on the results of this weekend.
