Lopes do not drop single set in Wednesday matinee
The Lopes (7-5)Â wasted no time securing the doubles point, as the pairs of Gala Arangio/Karina Hofbauer and Bella Crossman/Dania Deaifi both earned dominant 6-2 victories on Courts 1 and 2, respectively. Court 3 remained unfinished with Valentina Del Marco and Peyton Duckett leading 5-4.
GCU carried that momentum into singles play, where the team quickly wrapped up the match. Lopes freshman Angelina Mihajlovic was the first to finish, sweeping Chloe Vu 6-3, 6-0 on Court 5. Arangio, a sophomore, followed with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 performance against Niki Shahbazi on Court 2. Duckett, a freshman, delivered the clinching point, defeating Sam Condevillamar 6-1, 6-2 on Court 6.
With the team win secured, three matches went unfinished. Hofbauer was in control on Court 1, leading 6-3, 3-1, while Deaifi and Crossman were on the verge of victories with first-set wins and nearing second-set match points.
GCU had not won back-to-back sweeps this season, building good momentum for the back half of the season schedule.
The Lopes will be back at GCU Tennis Facility on Saturday morning against Montana State at 10. The match will be the Lopes' third home match in a row, ending the season's longest home stretch.
