Lopes look to clinch Mountain West Championship spot with win

Grand Canyon takes the road for its final regular-season matches Thursday and Saturday. The Lopes take on second-place Colorado State on Thursday (6 p.m. Phoenix time) and third-place Wyoming on Saturday (6 p.m. Phoenix time).

One win clinches a Mountain West Championship berth for GCU, which also secures a conference tournament spot if Air Force and San José State lose Thursday night.

Both of this week's GCU matches can be watched on Mountain West Network.

AT A GLANCE

GCU freshman setter/opposite Bella Nunez has posted seven triple-doubles this season, including five in a row to earn consecutive MW Freshman of the Week awards on Oct. 13 and 20.
The Lopes rank 12th in the country and second in the MW in blocks per set (2.81).
GCU freshman middle blocker Aubrey Bellus had 14 total blocks, setting a Division I-era GCU record of 21 team blocks against San Diego State.
Lopes senior outside hitter Anaelena Ramirez ranks seventh in the GCU D-I era for career kills with 635.
The Lopes' block total of 287 comes in at ninth in the nation this season.
GCU junior libero Bella Anderson tallied career-best 24 digs against San José State.
Lopes sophomore middle blocker Aubrey Goodere added a Division I-era third-best hitting percetage (.714) against Fresno State.
GCU freshman middle blocker Aubrey Bellus ranks 33rd in the country in blocks per set with 1.35.

LAST TIME OUT

After losing the first two sets, GCU won the third (25-19) and fourth sets (25-17). Wyoming won the fifth set despite 20 kills from Ramirez and 11 kills each from Goodere and Bellus.
The Lopes lost to Colorado State in four sets despite strong performances from Bellus and Nunez.

PLAYOFF SCENARIOS

If GCU wins one match, it clinches a spot in the MW tournament.
If Air Force AND San José State lose on Thursday, GCU will clinch a tourney spot regardless of its match outcome.
