The ninth-ranked Grand Canyon men's volleyball team is set to host 18th-ranked George Mason in the first home match of the 2025 campaign.
Both matches will be streamed live on B1G+.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- HOME SWEET HOME: The Lopes were 10-0 during the 2024 season at home. On Friday night, GCU will unveil the banner celebrating last year's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship title, along with the NCAA tournament appearance.Â
- NEW GUYS IN TOWN: Last weekend's season-opening wins at NJIT marked the first GCU appearances for five Lopes, who will likely make their home debuts in front of the Global Credit Union Arena crowd Friday night. Senior transfer Cole Duncanon is one of the new faces who is making an impact early. The middle blocker won MPSF Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 15 blocks through eight sets (1.88 blocks per set), which included matching the MPSF season high of nine in his GCU debut.Â
- HISTORY:Â The Lopes last faced George Mason in 2023 at the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Virgina, with a 3-0 win on the road. GCU has won four of the last five meetings against George Mason.Â
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
George Mason enters this weekend looking to ignite its season after losing the season opener Tuesday at UC San Diego. The Patriots tallied 11.8 kills per set on .257 hitting. Senior outside hitter Giomar Collazo Santiago had six kills and five digs in the three-set loss.Â
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lopes will stay in Phoenix to host UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 24 (6 p.m.) and 25 (7 p.m.) at Global Credit Union Arena.
