Two Grand Canyon players participated in the first fall tennis tournament, the Wildcat Invite, over the weekend in Tucson.
GCU seniors
Paolo Rosati and
Jonathan Da Silva made the trip south and competed against athletes from programs representing six conferences.
Rosati found the most success, winning two of three singles matches on the weekend. On Friday, he defeated Matias Rojas of New Mexico State in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). After dropping Saturday's match in three sets to Arizona's Santi Padilla-Cote, Rosati finished the weekend with a Sunday victory over Kai-Luca Ampaw of Gonzaga (6-3, 6-2).
Da Silva battled a minor injury throughout the weekend, ultimately losing his singles matches on Friday and Saturday before sitting out Sunday due to the injury.
The pair of seniors also got two days of doubles play and went 1-1, defeating a pairing from San Diego State, 6-0, on Friday and falling in a tiebreaker to a Gonzaga pair Saturday.Â
Next up for GCU is the ITA Men's All-American Championships, which starts Monday in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lopes newcomer
Nikita Volonski will be the lone Lopes participant.
