Grand Canyon graduate student
Natasha Puehse was selected as one of 64 individuals to participate in the NCAAÂ Division I singles championship. She is the first player in school history to earn an invite to the tournament.
The singles tournament will be held May 20-25 at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
It is on the heels of the NCAA's team tournament, which culminates on May 17-19 with the final eight teams also playing in Stillwater. The Lopes are participants in that 64-team tournament as well, beginning with a first-round matchup against San Diego on Friday.
The 64 singles participants consist of 12 automatic bids and 52 at-large selections. Puehse enters as the WAC's automatic bid. Conferences that have at least one individual ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top 125 hold an automatic bid. Puehse is that ranked individual, checking in at No. 107 in
the ITA's April 23 rankings.
Puehse is a three-time WAC Player of the Year including this season. GCU's all-time career singles wins leader, Puehse is 18-2 this season on the top court.
The bracket for the singles championships will be released at a later date on NCAA.com.
