Grand Canyon women's tennis will conclude its regular-season schedule by hosting UT Arlington on Sunday at GCU Tennis Facility. The Lopes will honor a pair of seniors that represent two of the top players in program history.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- SENIOR DUO: On senior day, the program will honor two of the most prominent players in program history in Natasha Puehse and Santa Strombacha. Puehse is completing her fifth Lopes season and Strombacha is finishing her third.
- RECORD WATCH: Puehse is staring down a major program milestone. Already the GCU record holder for most singles wins at the Division I level, Puehse is tied with Denise Valentin (1994-97) for the program's all-time record with 64 singles wins. With one more singles win, Puehse will have the all-time record to herself.
- RANKINGS WATCH: GCU continues to receive recognition in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings. In the latest edition, the Lopes checked in at No. 62. In singles, Puehse was ranked No. 96, representing the program's first player to crack the top 100. Puehse and Strombacha debuted in the doubles rankings at No. 88 and became the first GCU team to be ranked.
SCOUTING UT ARLINGTON
Behind GCU's 18 wins, UT Arlington is tied with Abilene Christian for most wins in the conference at 14. The Mavericks are 4-2 in WAC play after starting 0-2 and winning the last four consecutively. UTA began conference action with losses to Abilene Christian and Tarleton State before going on its current four-game win streak with victories against Stephen F. Austin, UT Rio Grande Valley, Utah Tech and Seattle U.
WHAT'S NEXT?
GCU enters next week's WAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed in Harlingen, Texas. The Lopes will open tournament play on Thursday by playing the No. 8 seed in a quarterfinal matchup.
