Lopes face Saint Mary's, UNLV on the road

The Grand Canyon men's tennis team will hit the road for a pair of weekend matches in Las Vegas against Saint Mary's and host UNLV.

3 THINGS TO KNOW

BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN: The Lopes snapped a seven-match losing streak last week with a 5-2 neutral site win over DePaul at Cal Poly. GCU lost the doubles point but rallied in singles play winning five of six matches in the comeback win.
WEKESA'S WEEKEND: Sophomore David Wekesa had a stellar weekend picking up a pair of singles wins. Against DePaul, Wekesa moved up to the No. 2 position and picked up a 6-4, 3-0 win by retirement before moving down to court three against Cal Poly and winning 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday. Wekesa now leads the team with a 5-4 singles record.
FINAL NONCONFERENCE MATCH: After the quick roadtrip the Lopes will return to Phoenix for the final nonconference match against Dayton on March 25. After the first ever meeting against the Flyers, the Lopes will open WAC play on the road at UT Rio Grande Valley and UT Arlington on March 28 and March 31.

SCOUTING

Saint Mary's enters this weekend with two wins in their last three matches, a 5-0 win over Jessup and a 4-0 win over Hawaii on Monday. The Gaels are 1-4 this season on the road with the lone win coming against Jessup at the Golden Gate Invitational on March 8. Junior Thibaud Maxant leads the team with a 4-4 record in singles play.

UNLV has played strong at the Fertitta Tennis Complex this season with five of their six wins coming at home. The Rebels have played against four straight Power 5 opponents picking up a 4-3 win over Purdue on Tuesday. UNLV will face Utah after taking on GCU which is their final nonconference match before Mountain West play begins.

GCU will will host Dayton on March 25 at 5 p.m.
