GCU duo earns WAC weekly award

Lopes' Sullwald, Wekesa earn 1st WAC award of season
The Grand Canyon men's tennis team earned its first WAC weekly award of the season Tuesday.

Lopes graduate Gerhard Sullwald and sophomore David Wekesa were named WAC Doubles Players of the Week after picking up a pair of wins at the No. 1 position.

The GCU duo went 2-1 last week during a three-match homestand. Sullwald and Wekesa won 7-6 and 6-3 over UC Riverside and Utah State, respectively, to help the Lopes capture each doubles point.

Sullwald and Wekesa are 4-1 together this season, and the Lopes have found success in doubles with an 11-6 record. GCU has won the doubles point in four of six matches this season.

The Lopes will be back in action this week, traveling to Arizona State on Friday and hosting Nevada on Saturday at GCU Tennis Facility.
