The Grand Canyon women's soccer team earned a third straight weekly WAC award on Tuesday with junior defender
Aleisha Ganief winning WAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
With a fifth shutout win on Sunday and a solid showing over last week, Ganief was selected for the honor and joins forward
Gianna Gourley, defender
Sidney Roberts and goalkeeper
DeAira Jackson in earning WAC weekly honors this season.
Â
Ganief and the Lopes had another solid week, allowing just one goal in two road matches at South Dakota State and North Dakota. Ganief played all 180 minutes and anchored the defense that allowed just a .200 shot-on-goal percentage, including not allowing a shot on goal against North Dakota on Sunday.
Â
Through eight games, the GCU defense leads the WAC with a 0.50 goals against average and just four goals allowed. GCU and Abilene Christian are tied for the conference lead with five shutouts.
Â
Ganief and the Lopes are back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m. at GCU Stadium against Loyola Marymount.
