The Grand Canyon women's soccer team took home their first WAC weekly awards of the 2023 season on Tuesday.
Â
Senior forward
Gianna Gourley was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week while junior
DeAira Jackson was named WAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
Â
Gourley led the GCU offense with four goals in two matches including a hat trick against CSU Bakersfield while Jackson collected 12 saves last week and recorded a shutout against the Roadrunners.
Â
Against Arizona both Gourley and Jackson put on a show. Jackson kept the Lopes in the game with seven saves, a season-high, while facing a barrage of shots from the Wildcats who finished with 18 total and nine on goal. Offensively Gourley tied up the match with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute as the Lopes went on to draw 1-1.
Â
Gourley took that momentum into CSU Bakersfield on Sunday and immediately opened the scoring just 9 minutes in. The senior forward added goals in the 47th and 58th minutes to complete her third career hat trick. Gourley ranks fifth in the nation with five goals this season.
Â
Defensively against the Roadrunners, Jackson collected five saves in her second shutout of the season. Jackson's save percentage now sits at .842 which is second in the WAC.
Â
The Lopes will be back in action at GCU Stadium this week against UTSA on Thursday and Oregon on Sunday.
