Grand Canyon junior outfielder
Homer Bush Jr. was named to the Academic All-America second team by College Sports Communicators.

The prestigious honor balances academic prowess and competitive success for the past year. Bush was one of 11 second-team honorees, combining with the 12 first-team members to represent one of the top 23 student-athletes in college baseball.
Competitively, Bush was an All-WAC first-team honoree and a Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List selection for posting a .370 batting average that ranked second on the team this season while scoring a team-best 69 runs.
Academically, Bush holds a cumulative GPA of 3.92 in his Bachelor's of Science in Sports Management degree program.
The award caps a breakout junior campaign for Bush, who raised his batting average from .270 as a sophomore to .370 as a junior. He also broke GCU's Division I single-season stolen-base record with 25 swipes in 31 attempts.
Bush becomes the second Academic All-America honoree in program history. Derek Mendoza, a senior third baseman for the Lopes in 2013, was
named a Division II first-team Academic All-American. Bush is the only WAC baseball representative on this year's list.
The process of selecting Academic All-America honorees began with identifying All-District winners, where Bush was first honored alongside GCU teammates
Zack Gregory,
Connor Markl and
Shawn Triplett.
