The Grand Canyon women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in WAC play with a 6-1 win over Utah Tech on Sunday at GCU Tennis Facility.

The Lopes (8-6, 2-0 WAC) wrapped up the first weekend of conference play with a dominant showing in singles and doubles. GCU won all three courts in doubles and the top five singles courts. The Lopes have now won eight of their past nine dual matches and improved to 6-2 at GCU Tennis Facility this year.

The doubles sweep began with freshman
Anali Kocevar and graduate
Madeline Lamoreaux rolling in their match at Cour 2, winning 6-2. With the early advantage, the Lopes took care of the other two courts. Senior
Natasha Puehse and junior
Santa Strombacha won 6-4 at Court 1 to clinch the point. In the final court, freshman
Dania Deaifi and sophomore
Valentina Del Marco prevailed in a close 7-5 match.

GCU jumped out to a quick advantage in singles, winning all six first sets. Puehse didn't drop a game in her match at the No. 1 position while her doubles teammate, Strombacha, won in straight sets on Court 2..

With the Lopes leading 3-0, the team win was clinched by Lamoreaux in straight sets at Court 5 with Deaifi quickly following at Court 4, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Kocevar improved to 2-0 in WAC play with a straight-set win at Court 3 and freshman
Hebe Toyos played in her first match since Jan. 22, falling in three sets.

The Lopes will continue WAC play on the road next weekend, traveling to UT Rio Grande Valley and UT Arlington on March 24 and 26.
