The Grand Canyon women's tennis team began Western Athletic Conference play with a 7-0 shutout over Seattle U at the GCU Tennis Facility on Friday.

The Lopes (7-6, 1-0 WAC) won all three doubles match and six singles matches in a dominant showing as they begin the quest for a fourth consecutive WAC regular season title.

In doubles the Lopes took the early 1-0 lead over Seattle (2-6, 0-1 WAC) with wins on all three courts. Freshman
Anali Kocevar and graduate
Madeline Lamoreaux started the match with a 6-1 win at court two. At court three freshman
Dania Deaifi and sophomore
Valentina Del Marco clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win. At the No. 1 position senior
Natasha Puehse and junior
Santa Strombacha won 6-3 for their eighth win in a row.

Singles was all GCU as they took first set on all six courts. Lamoreaux was the first to finish with a 6-2, 6-0 win at court five followed quickly by Puehse with a straight set win at the top position. Kocevar clinched the dual-match win with her 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3, as she improved to 6-3 on the season.

The final three courts when to GCU with Strombacha and Deaifi winning in straight sets at courts two and four. Del Marco had to go to a 10-point tiebreaker in her third set prevailing 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 to finish the match.

The Lopes will be back in action at the GCU Tennis Facility on Sunday when they face Utah Tech at 11 a.m.
