ODGEN, Utah – The Grand Canyon men's tennis team finished a weekend road trip with a 6-1 loss to Weber State on Saturday afternoon.
GCU (1-5) lost the doubles point and Weber State (3-3) pressed its advantage in singles despite strong efforts by two Lopes players pushing their matches to three sets.
The Wildcats took the doubles point with wins at the top and bottom courts. GCU sophomore

David Wekesa lost 6-2 at No. 1 while Lopes junior
Loic Van Zeggelaar and freshman
Alfred Almasi lost 6-2 at Court 3.
GCU nearly won at Court 2, but sophomore

William Alsterback had their match abandoned when they were leading 5-4.
Despite being down 1-0 in the dual, the Lopes fought by taking a trio of singles matches to three sets. Van Zeggelaar fought hard in his first set, losing 7-6 before rebounding to win the second set 6-1. In the 10-point, third-set tiebreaker, the GCU junior prevailed 10-7 for his first singles win of the season.
Almasi and Wekesa each forced a third set in singles matches at Courts 3 and 4 but were unable to prevail in the final set.
The Aggies took the remaining courts in straight sets and clinched the dual match win at Court 4 over Wekesa.
The Lopes will return to the GCU Tennis Facility on Wednesday facing off against UC Riverside at 10:30 a.m.
