Along 39 other competing schools, the automatic bids to the NCAA championship meet are granted to the top two teams in each region. Additionally, the first four regional finishers not affiliated with automatic qualifying or at-large teams also earn automatic bids to the championships. Teams without automatic bids must seek selection by the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee, which can choose them as one of the 13 at-large teams. The selection process includes only two individual at-large slots.
