Grand Canyon junior forward
Gianna Gourley was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Â
Gourley led the GCU offense with two goals that featured a 1-0 win over Pac-12 foe Arizona at home and a 2-0 win at New Mexico, the defending Mountain West champs on Sunday.
Â
The Las Vegas native has been on a tear recently with four goals in the last three matches and is the only Lope to record a point in five of the six matches this season. The six goals and 13 points for Gourley this season rank her in fourth and sixth in the national rankings, respectively.
Â
Gourley scored the game-winning goal against the Wildcats in the 54th minute. After freshman midfielder
AJ Loera forced a turnover, she found Gourley with a long pass and the GCU forward finished with a chip shot that caught the Arizona goalkeeper out of position.
Â
Gourley picked right where she left off Sunday at New Mexico, scoring her second goal of the week in the 14th minute. Build-up play from sophomore midfielder
Brenna Alderson and junior forward
Lindsey Prokop found Gourley at the back post to give GCU an early 1-0 lead.
Â
Gourley and the Lopes will be back in action on Sunday at 7 p.m. when they face Arkansas at GCU Stadium.
