Grand Canyon concludes the regular season with a three-game series against Seattle U at GCU Ballpark. The series begins on Thursday night with the WAC Tournament looming next Wednesday in Mesa, Arizona.

A Friday night pregame ceremony will honor four GCU seniors: Juan Colato, Jonny Weaver, Nick Hansen and Jason Nelson.

All three games will be available on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

RECORD SETTERS: As an impressive GCU season winds down, the record books have been wide open as of late. Last weekend in a sweep at New Mexico State, GCU set a program record for strikeouts in a season. Now at 511 as a staff, the Lopes surpassed the 1986 and 2018 teams' program record of 499 strikeouts. Freshman right-hander Daniel Avitia set GCU's freshman strikeout record when he hit 90, and he now sits at 95.
CHAMPS AGAIN: The Lopes clinched a regular-season title last weekend by winning the West Division. GCU has won six WAC regular-season championships and four of the last five. The Lopes need one win or a Sam Houston loss to ensure the top conference record regardless of division.
IN CLOSING: Junior closer Vince Reilly added two more saves to his ledger last weekend, running his count to 12. He matched Frankie Scalzo's 2021 mark for most saves by a Lopes pitcher in the D-I era. Reilly needs three more saves to tie GCU's all-time program record of 15 set by Art Martinez in 1982.

SCOUTING

Seattle U has clinched a spot in next week's WAC Tournament and is seeking to remain the West Division's No. 3 seed. The Redhawks have lost six of their last seven conference series with the lone win in that stretch coming at Dixie State in early May. In conference play, however, Seattle U has only been swept once, coming at the hands of California Baptist in early April.

Senior infielder Matt Boissoneault leads the team with a .368 batting average and is one of two Redhawks hitting over .300. On a team that doesn't run much, senior outfielder Gavin Rork does with 18 stolen bases to rank second in the conference. The remainder of Seattle U's roster has stolen 10 bases combined.

The Redhawks are hitting .303 in conference games to rank sixth in the WAC. Seattle U has hit 26 homers during WAC play, tied for 10th in the conference. The Redhawks feature a 7.84 ERA in conference action to rank 12th.

WHAT'S NEXT?

GCU will open WAC Tournament play as the West Division No. 1 seed. The Lopes will open against the Southwest Division's No. 4 seed (likely Abilene Christian but potentially UT Rio Grande Valley) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
