With its final weekend of regular-season nonconference competition in the rearview mirror, the Grand Canyon baseball team resumes WAC play with a three-game series at Utah Valley beginning on Friday.
The Lopes have four conference series remaining and hold a four-game lead on second-place California Baptist in the WAC West Division standings.
All three games of the series will be streamed on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- IT STARTS WITH PITCHING...:Â The Lopes pitching staff is compiling an impressive season. Against one of the nation's 25 most challenging schedules, GCU's arms have been up to the task with a 3.90 ERA that ranks 21st in the nation. If the season ended today, it would be GCU's second-best team ERA in its 16 full seasons at the Division I level. GCU's ERA is over a half run better than the nearest WAC foe (Lamar at 4.52). In conference play, the ERA lowers to an even more impressive 2.90, well ahead of the next best team (California Baptist at 4.47).
 - ...AND DEFENSE...: GCU has gone five games without committing an error, its longest stretch since a six-game span in April 2018. The Lopes have improved their fielding percentage to .974, closing in on becoming a top-50 mark nationally.
 - ...BUT HOME RUNS HELP: While it all starts with pitching and defense, a home run or two can help the cause. The Lopes are 23-2 when they hit at least home run. GCU is coming off of back-to-back multi-homer games in wins against No. 7 Stanford and New Mexico. Junior right fielder Tayler Aguilar has hit three in his last seven at bats.
SCOUTING
Under first-year head coach Eddie Smith, Utah Valley has already surpassed last season's win total, had some midweek success with wins over Utah and UNLV, and won two of its last three conference series over Seattle U and Dixie State.
The Wolverines are tied for fifth in the WAC West Division. With California Baptist ineligible, Utah Valley is vying with Seattle U for the final spot in the WAC Tournament.
Utah Valley gets on base at just a .337 clip, one of the lowest 30 marks in the nation. But the Wolverines go as senior utilityman Mitch Moralez goes. His .389 average is third in the WAC and 41st in the country.
The Wolverines are looking to end a three-game skid. Since winning the series opener at California Baptist, Utah Valley dropped the final two to the Lancers and lost a crosstown battle to BYU on Tuesday.

The Lopes end a nine-game stretch of road games with a Tuesday night matchup against Arizona in Tucson.Â
