Prudhomme named to NCAA D-I committee

GCU head coach will serve 4-year appointment for men's, women's tennis
Grand Canyon men's and women's tennis head coach Greg Prudhomme earned the prestigious honor of being named to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Committee.

The 15-year GCU head coach will serve a four-year appointment that begins on Sept. 1 and will help sustain and advance the NCAA's mission, traditions, values and reputation.

"It's a real honor to be appointed to this NCAA national committee position," Prudhomme said. "(GCU President) Brian Mueller and (GCU Vice President of Athletics) Jamie Boggs have been great role models of servant leadership with the committees they serve on and the community service they always do. I am humbled that I can do my small part and give back to the sport of tennis.
"College tennis has been great to myself and my family, and to our program at GCU. So this is my chance to give some time and be involved in some of the decision making in the student athlete welfare. I look forward to this opportunity of serving the NCAA and tennis through this position."

Prudhomme has been a staple in the GCU and Arizona tennis community for over 20 years, serving as head coach at Glendale Community College from 1995-2006 before coming to GCU in 2008 and reviving the men's tennis program in 2009.

Since the Division I transition began in 2014, Prudhomme has directed the men's and women's programs at GCU and won seven WAC regular-season championships and three WAC Tournament titles. Both programs are coming off NCAA tournament appearances last year.

An eight-time WAC Coach of the Year, Prudhomme has also earned the U.S. Professional Tennis Association's Southwest Region Coach of the Year four times along with USPTA National Coach of the Year honors in 2018. Most recently in 2020, Prudhomme was named the Alex Gordon Tennis Professional of the Year by the Southwest Professional Tennis Association.
"Integrity and passion for collegiate tennis are critical to this committee, two characteristics that coach Prudhomme has an abundance of," GCU assistant athletic director and tennis administrator Anthony Martinez said. "There is no doubt that Coach Prudhomme will handle this great achievement and responsibility with the utmost care, and will look to continue progressing the sport forward."
