Lopes host Drake, Idaho State

The Grand Canyon women's tennis team fresh off a match down in Tucson on Tuesday will be back home for two matches on Thursday and Monday against Drake and Idaho State at the GCU Tennis Facility.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

WAC FAVORITES: On Tuesday the Western Athletic Conference released the WAC pre-conference poll and the Lopes were picked to win the Southwest Division. In the newly formatted conference the Lopes earned three first place votes and 15 overall to edge out New Mexico State as the divisional favorite. Conference newcomer Stephen F. Austin was picked as the favorite in the South Division.
SHAKING UP THE LINEUP: In the last two matches the Lopes have shaken up the bottom of both the doubles and singles lineup. Sophomore Aline Buhr and freshman Sara Rakim teamed up in doubles and were inserted into the singles lineup at the bottom two courts.
WAC PLAY UPCOMING: The Lopes will use the next three nonconference as preparation for WAC play beginning in April. After hosting Eastern Washington on March 29, GCU will travel to Seattle U for matches against the host Redhawks and Dixie State on April 1 and 2.

SCOUTING

Drake was in the midst of a 6-1 stretch before the Bulldogs suffered back-to-back losses to power five opponents Wisconsin and Arizona, while six of their seven wins have come at home. The Bulldogs are coming off their first NCAA Tournament appearance last season since 2000.

Idaho State continues Big Sky play against Eastern Washington on Friday before traveling down to Phoenix for matches against GCU on Monday and Ottawa on Tuesday. The Bengals won their conference opener against Portland State 6-1.
