Grand Canyon returns to the site of its first NCAA Division I tournament appearance on Tuesday for a battle with No. 11 Arizona at Hi Corbett Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. in Tucson, where GCU will make its road debut.
The game will be streamed for free on

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- TUCSON REWIND: GCU's first NCAA Division I tournament appearance came in last year's Tucson Regional, where the Lopes drew a pair of top-25 foes in No. 5 Arizona and No. 23 Oklahoma State. GCU held an early 4-0 lead in its postseason opener, but Arizona's hot offense tallied 12 runs and won 12-6 on the way to a regional championship, super regional championship and College World Series appearance. The Lopes best D-I season came to a close with a loss to Oklahoma State.
- GRAND CANYON STATE BATTLES: Last year marked the first year since 2003 that the Lopes played both Arizona and Arizona State in the same season. GCU played home-and-home series with the Wildcats and Sun Devils and the home team winning all four contests. The Lopes' win over Arizona came in extra-inning, walk-off fashion. The in-state series continues this year, when the Lopes will play Arizona three times and Arizona State twice. All three Arizona schools were NCAA tournament participants a year ago.
- ROAD WARRIORS: Contrary to a typical GCU schedule, the Lopes will spend a lot of time on the road in the first weeks this season. GCU is beginning an eight-game span away from Phoenix. Following Tuesday's day trip to Tucson, the Lopes will leave for California on Thursday and spend 10 consecutive days there. GCU is playing an eight-game stretch of regular-season road games for the first time since 2016, when the Lopes ventured to Seattle U, North Dakota, Kansas and Kansas State.
SCOUTING
Arizona advanced to last year's College World Series after winning a home regional (vs. GCU, Oklahoma State and UC Santa Barbara) and a super regional (vs. Ole Miss). The Wildcats lost both of their games in Omaha.
The Wildcats' success led to the end of Jay Johnson's six-year stint as Arizona head coach when he moved to LSU to lead the Tigers. Arizona replaced Johnson with an alumnus Chip Hale, a long-time MLB coach and former Arizona Diamondbacks manager.
Arizona got its new era off to a strong start over opening weekend in Arlington, Texas. The Wildcats defeated Kansas State, Oklahoma and No. 14 Texas Tech by hitting .342 and posting a 3.67 ERA as a pitching staff.
WHAT'S NEXT?
GCU's 10-day, seven-game stretch in California commences with a three-game set at UC Irvine, a fellow NCAA tournament participant. The series gets underway on Friday at 7 p.m. (Phoenix time).
