Tanner Johns earned Mountain West weekly honors Monday after helping the Lopes close the regular season with a series win at Nevada.
Ahern was named MW Pitcher of the Week, while Johns was selected as MW Freshman of the Week. The awards marked GCU's fifth and sixth MW weekly honors in its first season in the conference.
Ahern earned the pitching honor after picking up the win in relief at Nevada, throwing six scoreless innings. He scattered four hits and one walk while striking out six across 23 batters faced. Ahern posted a spotless ERA, 0.83 WHIP and .200 opponent batting average while not allowing an extra-base hit.
The outing helped GCU win the middle game of the series and continue its late-season push. Ahern threw 55 strikes on 84 pitches in matching his longest appearance of the season.
Johns earned MW Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after leading GCU offensively in the series win. He hit .462 (6-for-13) with a .533 on-base percentage and .769 slugging percentage across the three-game set.
The freshman right fielder led the Lopes with six RBIs and tied for the team lead with six hits. Johns added three runs, a double, a home run, two extra-base hits and 10 total bases, while recording multiple hits in all three games.
Johns' biggest game came in the middle matchup of the series, when he went 2 for 5 with a home run, five RBIs and five total bases. He also went 1 for 1 on stolen bases and posted a perfect defensive week in right field with 13 putouts and no errors.
