Grand Canyon junior designated hitter
Trevor Schmidt and junior left-handed pitcher
Chase Frey earned All-Mountain West recognition after leading the Lopes through their first season in the conference.
Schmidt was named to the All-Mountain West First Team, while Frey earned second-team honors.
Schmidt was one of the league's top power bats in MW play, hitting .380 with nine home runs, seven doubles, 28 RBIs, 21 runs, a .750 slugging percentage and a .429 on-base percentage in 25 conference games. He ranked third in the MW in home runs and slugging percentage, while also placing among the league leaders in batting average, RBIs and total bases.
The junior's conference season included several of GCU's biggest offensive moments. Schmidt became the first GCU hitter to homer twice in a game this season when he went deep twice at Fresno State on April 2. He also drove in five runs in the first two innings of an April 17 win over Air Force, hitting a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run double in the second to help the Lopes deliver an early knockout punch.
Schmidt, who is from Anaheim, California, continued to come through late in the season, hitting his 10th home run on Senior Day against New Mexico and adding a go-ahead homer at Nevada during the final weekend as GCU fought to stay alive in the MW Championship race. He finished as one of the Lopes' most productive middle-of-the-order bats and closed his senior season with first-team all-conference recognition.

Frey earned second-team honors after giving GCU one of the MW's most reliable weekend starters. In conference play, Frey logged 48 1/3 innings with 51 strikeouts, a .189 opponent batting average and a 1.08 WHIP while ranking among the league leaders in innings pitched, strikeouts and opponent batting average.
His season was highlighted by one of the best pitching performances of GCU's modern era. Frey threw a nine-inning complete game shutout at Fresno State on April 3, allowing two hits with eight strikeouts in a 3-0 win. It marked GCU's first nine-inning complete game shutout since
Connor Mattison's no-hitter on March 29, 2024.
Frey followed that performance with another dominant outing the next week against UNLV, carrying a scoreless streak to 17 innings before working into the ninth inning. He struck out 14 Rebels, tying the most strikeouts by a GCU pitcher since the program returned to Division I in 2014, matching Daniel Avitia's 14-strikeout game against Sacramento State on May 7, 2022. Frey's 14 strikeouts also stood as the most by a MW pitcher this season.
Nationally, Frey ranked in the top 100 in ERA, WHIP and strikeout-to-walk ratio while finishing as one of the MW's top arms. He ranked first in the conference in WHIP and strikeout-to-walk ratio and second in walks allowed per nine innings.
The selections give GCU two All-Mountain West honorees in its first season as a conference member.
