THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- TRANSFERΒ SUCCESS: So far in the young season, the Lopes have seen solid contributions from incoming transfers Fabienne Schmidt and Santa Strombacha. Schmidt, a graduate transfer from Austin Peay, has won all three of her singles matches at No. 2 and has taken home WAC Singles and Doubles Player of the Week honors. Strombacha, a sophomore from Arizona, has also started 3-0 in singles at No. 3 and was named WAC Singles Player of the Week on Jan. 26
Β - DOUBLESΒ CLINCHED:Β In the three matches the Lopes have played, doubles has played a key factor in the wins. Against UC Riverside, the doubles point was the key in a 4-3 comeback win and against UC Irvine the Lopes used the momentum from the early 1-0 lead to shutout the Anteaters 5-0.
Β - HISTORY VS. LOBOS: GCU is looking for its first ever win against New Mexico. The Lopes and Lobos have met seven times, three of those coming in GCU's Division I history. Last March, GCU learned from a 4-3 loss and went on to win nine of the final 10 matches of the regular season.
SCOUTING
New Mexico hasΒ started strong with a 5-1 record through the first three weeks of dual-match play. The Lobos have already beaten fellow WAC opponents Abilene Christian and New Mexico State in back-to-back 5-2 wins on Feb. 6 and 12.ΒHsuan Huang has won all five of her singles matches in positions four to six in singles while Yue Chen and Myu KageyamaΒ are 5-1 at the top doubles spot.
