ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Grand Canyon men's tennis team wrapped up a two-match road trip with a 6-1 loss at New Mexico on Sunday.
The Lopes (0-9) dropped the doubles point with losses at the bottom two courts. Sophomore
Loic Van Zeggelaar and graduate
Freddie Grant lost 3-6 at Court 2 while sophomores
Stanislas De Samucewicz and
Grzegorz Rudnicki fell 6-3 at Court 3. Sophomores
Jiri Novak and
Adrien Coulome were leading 5-4 at No. 1 when their match was left unfinished.
In singles, New Mexico (2-2) came out aggressive and took the first set on five of the six courts. De Samucewicz lost at No. 6 in straight sets while Novak fell 6-1, 6-4 at Court 1. The dual-match win for New Mexico was clinched with a straight-set win over GCU's Coulome at Court 4.
The final match of the day was a solid win for the Lopes as freshman
Martim Marujo had a 7-5, 7-5 win over the Lobos' Daniil Kakhniuk.
The Lopes will be back in action Sunday at home against UC San Diego.
