The Grand Canyon men's tennis team welcome a pair of signees to the program on Monday.
Alfred Almasi will join the Lopes for the upcoming season in January while Alberto Garcia is the first 2023-24 signing for new head coach
Derek Siddiqui.
Almasi hails from Trstice, Slovokia and will add to the depth of the GCU 11-man roster. Almasi has a U-16 national championship and has earned an ATP point. He chose GCU because of the community and the tennis program.

He is mature, has great work ethic and loves the game. I cannot wait to start working with him and seeing the impact he will make on this program."
Garcia will join the Lopes next season from his hometown of Elche, Spain. Tennis is a family sport for Alberto and his brother Juan Carlos who is joing Tyler Junior College in January. His father Juan is a national coach and a director of a tennis school with more than 300 students. Garcia has participated in the Mcaca Jovenes Promesas Circuit winning several tournaments. Currently Garcia is playing in futures to earn ATP points.
"I am thrilled that Alberto will be joining us in the fall of 2023," Siddiqui said. "Alberto is a great athlete, talented, and loves the team environment. He is going to push this program and culture forward."
The Lopes will open the 2023 season at Arizona State on January 12.
