Following consecutive sweep victories against New Mexico State and Sam Houston, the Grand Canyon women's volleyball team makes its final regular-season road trip with a Thursday game at Southern Utah and a Saturday game at Utah Tech.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- MITCHELL 3K: GCU senior setter Klaire Mitchell passed the 3,000-assist career mark last week in an Oct. 20 match against UT Rio Grande Valley. She is one of 22 active players in the nation have 3,000 assists and an average of 10 assists per set.
- WEALTH OF HEALTH: The Lopes' improving performance correlates with the return of key players. Senior middle blocker Annabelle Kubinski, a Preseason All-WAC honoree, started her first match on Oct. 22. She recorded her first 13 kills of the season on Oct. 20 and 22 and had a four-block match Saturday. Junior outside hitter Ashley Lifgren has recorded double-digit kill totals in the last six full matches she has played.
- HOT HITTERS: GCU is 10-1 this season when it hits at least .225 in a match, including a GCU Division I-era record of .447 against Sam Houston on Saturday.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN UTAH
- Southern Utah is coming off a 3-2 win against Utah Tech with 15 kills from junior 5-foot-11 outside hitter Makenzie Templeton. She is averaging a team-high 2.72 kills per set.
- Thunderbirds junior setter Macy Short ranks fifth in the WAC with 7.97 assists per set.
- Southern Utah has won three of its past four matches but is 2-9 when playing away from its home in Cedar City, Utah, this season.
SCOUTING UTAH TECH
- Utah Tech senior libero Mykenna Nelson ranks second in the WAC with 5.04 digs per set. Nelson attended Phoenix Greenway High School, where GCU freshman outside hitter Tatum Parrott also starred.
- The Trail Blazers are allowing the second-lowest hitting percentage (.184) in the WAC this season by averaging the second-most digs per set (16.5).
- Last season, GCU and Utah Tech each won in a home-court sweep against the other.

GCU vs. Sam Houston
