Grand Canyon freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Ferguson won her first WAC Defensive Player of the Week award after a stellar two-game performance against California Baptist.
Â
The GCU goalkeeper faced the top offensive team in the conference for two home matches and held the Lancers to two goals in Thursday's tie and earned her third shutout in Saturday's win.
Â
The Phoenix native now leads the WAC in save percentage (84.2%) and goals against average (0.77). Ferguson, a Desert Vista High School graduate, is also on pace to become the first GCU goalkeeper to save over 80% of her shots since the Lopes to Division I.
Â
Ferguson faced 18 CBU shots and made eight saves in a 2-2 draw on Thursday before making another eight saves on 19 shots in Saturday's 4-0 victory. The 16 saves are the most by Ferguson in a two-game conference series this season.
Â
Ferguson's success has mirrored the success of GCU, as the Lopes have gone 5-1-1 with the freshman in between the posts while outscoring their opponents 22-6.
Â
The Lopes will look to finish the regular season on a high note at New Mexico State on Friday before hosting the WAC Tournament at GCU Stadium from April 13-15.
