Grand Canyon women's basketball announced the signing of guard Amara Graham, a transfer from UT Rio Grande Valley who was the WAC's leading scorer last season.
"Amara is the complete package when in comes to guard play, and I can't wait to see her have success within our system, where I know she will thrive," GCU head coach Molly Miller said. "She is a lights-out shooter but also attacks the basket and finishes really well around the rim."
In her senior season at UTRGV, Graham led the conference with 16.5 points per game and 38.1 minutes per game and ranked second with 1.9 three-pointers made per game. The 5-foot-6 guard from Chicago also posted 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game with 45.2% shooting from the field and 36.6% shooting on 3-pointers.
Her season highs included 26 points at UT San Antonio, five 3-pointers against GCU, nine free throws at Southern Utah, nine rebounds at Tarleton, nine assists at Seattle U and four steals against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
"I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to finish off my collegiate career at GCU," Graham said. "I appreciate Coach Miller and her staff for believing in me and am beyond excited to learn their system. The Lope family is like no other and I can't wait to be a part of it. #LopesUp."
During her time as a Vaquero, she earned All-WAC second-team honors for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Graham was also named to the WAC All-Defensive Team in 2019-20 and earned Academic All-WAC honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior. This year's Academic All-WAC honors have not been announced.
Before UTRGV, Graham attended Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago, where she averaged 19.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.0 steals in her senior season.
"Her experience, maturity, basketball IQ and leadership will prove to be extremely valuable for our team," Miller said. "She is a standout basketball player, but even more importantly, a high character individual who I am so excited to coach. We are absolutely thrilled AG will be completing her master's at GCU and competing as a Lope for her last year of eligibility."
