EDINBURG, Texas — The Grand Canyon women's tennis team won its sixth match in a row on Thursday with a 7-0 victory at UT Rio Grande Valley.
The Lopes (7-7, 3-0 WAC) dominated the Vaqueros (3-13, 1-2 WAC) winning all nine matches in doubles and singles to keep pace with New Mexico State, which also won Thursday. The Aggies' Friday morning loss put GCU alone in first place.
In doubles, GCU picked up wins on all three courts. Senior

Taylor Andersen won their seventh match in a row with a 6-2 win at No. 3. Sophomore

Jana Weiss finished quickly behind with a 6-1 win at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point for GCU. Senior duo

Autum Prudhomme wrapped up doubles with their seventh win in a row, a 6-4 decision on Court 2.
The Lopes kept the momentum going with all six singles wins coming in straight sets. Occhipinti won her ninth singles match of the season at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against UTRGV singles leader Katarina Sasaroga. Lomas prevailed in a second-set tiebreaker after taking the first set 6-2 at No. 4 while Prudhomme clinched the team triump with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5.
Leading 4-0, the Lopes finished the match strongly with Andersen winning 6-3, 6-4 at Court 6 and Weiss wrapping up her sixth singles win in a row with a 6-3, 7-5 scoreline. At No. 1, Puehse who had finished first in the last three matches, was the final one to prevail Thursday in a 7-6, 7-6 win.
The Lopes wrap up the Edinburg, Texas, visit with a neutral-site match against Seattle U (0-11, 0-3 WAC) at 2 p.m. (Phoenix time).
