Freshman earns GCU's first WAC weekly honor of season

For the first time in his young Grand Canyon career, freshman tennis player Jiri Novak was named WAC Men's Singles Player of the Week.

The Prostejov, Czech Republic, native has been a bright spot for the Lopes this season, leading the team in singles wins, including a 2-0 mark at No. 4 over the past two matches. This is the first weekly WAC award for the Lopes this season.

In last week's home opener against New Mexico, Novak defeated the Lobos' Sergio Molina 6-1, 6-3. It was one of the Lopes' two singles against New Mexico at the GCU Tennis Facility.

Novak and the Lopes will be back in action at home on March 9 against Utah State at 11 a.m.
