Grand Canyon senior forward
Marleen Schimmer capped off her exceptional weekend with WAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Schimmer was also named to the College Soccer News National Player Team of the Week after her four-goal performance against California Baptist and Seattle U.
The Mainz, Germany native recorded her first career hat trick against CBU on Friday in just the first 15 minutes of the match. Part of the 6-1 win, Schimmer scored goals on back-to-back GCU free kicks in the fourth and eighth minutes while finishing off the three-goal performance with a right-footed shot just outside the penalty box seven minutes later.
Against Seattle U, Schimmer was the hero once again scoring the game-winning goal in the 95th minute off a cross from
Gianna Gourley. The 2-0 weekend moves GCU to 10-2-1 while remaining unbeaten in WAC play at 3-0-1.
Schimmer now ranks 23rd in the country in goals with eight and 16th in points with 22. As a team GCU is tied for eighth in the NCAA with 34 goals and 12th with 99 points this season.
The Lopes will be back in action on Saturday against New Mexico State at GCU Stadium.
