The Grand Canyon men's tennis team will head back to California this week for the Southern California Intercollegiates event hosted by USC.
It will be a special trip for the Lopes, as they return to the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium where they competed in the NCAA tournament against the Trojans in March.
This will be the final fall event for the men's team before GCU begins its WAC regular-season and tournament title defenses in the spring.
The men are coming off a strong performance at the ITA Southwest Regional at Pepperdine last weekend. Sophomore
Jiri Novak and junior
Mariano Argote each picked up singles wins in the main 128-player draw. Novak defeated UC San Diego's Zach Emert 7-6, 5-7, 7-5 while Argote won 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 over Hawaii's Blaz Seric.
In the consolation draw, sophomore
Loic Van Zeggelaar advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Cody Castro of Hawaii while fifth-year
Freddie Grant took down UCSD's Tristan Taylor 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-5).
